GM University is in Davanagere city located adjoining to Deputy Commissioner’s office on Poona
-Bangalore Highway in Karnataka State. It’s around 262 km from Bangalore city and it is well connected by trains and
bus routes with all the major cities of Karnataka. The GMU campus is around 4 km distance from Davanagere city
centre.
GM University was created by an act of the State of Karnataka (Act No. 19 of 2023). GM University has been
established with a goal to provide opportunities for higher education for all sections of Society. Though GM
University is new in its name but has a history of more than 20 years in higher education. GM Institute of
Technology (GMIT), a well-known Engineering and Technology institution which is now a part of GM university was
established way back in 2001. GMIT is known for its quality education and nurturing of young talents. To extend the
portfolio of offerings and to meet 21st Century education needs GMU was established. GMU aims to be a premier
university in the country and in the globe. GMU has a unique education model to provide holistic education to its
students and to meet 21st Century Education Challenges.

GMU has four divisions- Academics, Research, Skill and Vocational Training, and Consultancy,
Innovation and Entrepreneurship. Academics offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses in several disciplines
through its faculties. Research Division is committed to new knowledge creation and dissemination through its PhD
programs. Technical Skills and Life Skills are becoming very important for sustaining and performing in a Job
scenario, the University has created several skill development courses to meet the skill requirements of industry
and business. Another aspect that is gaining importance is innovation and entrepreneurship. Students are trained on
innovation principles, business incubation and real-life problem solving. To ensure holistic development of a
student such a model has been envisaged and implemented.
GMU offers courses in Engineering, Computing and IT, Basic and Applied Sciences, Commerce and Management, Legal
studies, Health and Allied Sciences, Humanities and Social Sciences, Architecture, Art and Design, Tourism and
Hospitality and several other areas of academics to meet the human resources requirements of various sectors of
economy. Students admitting into GMU, in addition to core courses in their chosen program could study elective and
open elective courses to specialise as well as broaden their knowledge. Its mandatory for students to earn specified
number of credits in research projects, technical skill training, life skills, and innovation and entrepreneurship.
Students are encouraged to participate in athletics and sports, student club activities, cultural activities and
community services and required to earn specified number of credits in each activity. The University has been so
modelled to effectively impart holistic education. Each academic program of GMU has features like outcome-based
curriculum, technology-enabled teaching methods, modern learning resources for student-centric learning with a focus
on project-based learning, multiple assessment methods to evaluate students work, interaction with industry and
businesses for internships and guest lectures, project work and project exhibition, opportunities for study abroad,
Innovation week to challenge students’ creativity , etc.
GMU offering of postgraduate programs is unique. GM School of Advanced Studies offers industry relevant postgraduate
programs involving expert teachers from academia and industry. The courses in each program are offered on a modular
basis to have expert faculty from academia, industry, and technological and scientific organisations. GM Business
School plans to offer well sought after MBA programs in collaboration with Foreign Universities.
GMU aspires to prepare students to face Local and Global Challenges. This philosophy is reflected in Vision and
Mission statements of GMU. The University commenced offering of academic programs with effect from September 2023.
